Three years on from the last event, the MetaComet Systems team are excited to be returning to The London Book Fair from Tuesday, April 5 to Thursday, April 7.

We’re really looking forward to catching up with current publishing partners and making new contacts. Book fairs like London are also ideal for understanding current issues in our market, and we’ll be learning more about the challenges and opportunities facing publishers, to ensure our solutions continue to meet needs. We’ll also be seeking to understand how COVID has and hasn’t changed the publishing industry so we can futureproof our services.

Like most businesses, we have pivoted to remote meetings and virtual events during the pandemic. They have been a very effective way to stay in touch, and have compensated for not being able to talk face-to-face. But nothing beats meeting in person, and it will be a great pleasure to be back in the same room with our friends and colleagues in the UK and around the world. There’s no doubt that online conversations will continue well after things return to normal, but since early 2020 we have all been reminded of the value of book fairs, conferences and other events.

After all, this is an industry built on people, and publishers need to be able to rely on a variety of partners—on authors to create great content, on retailers to promote and sell it properly, and on third parties they use to handle aspects of their work. This need for trust is what makes real-world events like book fairs so valuable. We all want to get to know the people behind the services and products we use, because it gives us the confidence that they will work, and that we will get help if we need it.
